The Mark Rochon Leadership Award in Rehabilitation Sciences

The Mark Rochon Leadership Award in Rehabilitation Sciences was established to recognize and celebrate Mark Rochon, Toronto Rehab’s former CEO.  A highly respected and influential health care leader, Mr. Rochon was a driving force in the evolution of Toronto Rehab into one of the world’s most prominent health science centres focused on rehabilitation.  His passion for, and his belief in, research and the development of the next generation of leaders is the impetus for this important and prestigious award.

Specific Eligibility of this Award:
The goal of establishing this award is to support students in their first or second year of graduate school in a Master’s or PhD programme that aligns with the research mission and goals of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. Students who will carry out their research at Toronto Rehab and whose studies will further the strategic directions of Toronto Rehab are eligible. Applicants must be supervised by a Toronto Rehab scientist who has an appropriate university appointment.

Candidates may apply for this award prior to being accepted into graduate studies provided they demonstrate evidence of having applied to a relevant graduate program. 

Students enrolled in professional masters and professional doctorate programs are not eligible for this award. Postgraduate medical trainees must be registered in a graduate program to be eligible.

Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated leadership qualities through extracurricular activities, community service, and/or other personal achievements.  Applications will be evaluated for academic merit, research ability / potential and extracurricular leadership.  Additional preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated commitment to Toronto Rehab by volunteering in patient care or research.

Amount of Award: $10,000
